    2014 - 2016 *) Project: Public Safety Communications Research program (PSCR)
    *) Partners: Department of Homeland Security (DHS); First Responder Network Authority
    (FirstNet)
    *) Goals: Use of new emerging technologies (e.g., LTE and D2D communications) to provide
    public safety services and accelerate the standardization and utilization of such technologies.
    Efforts are focused on the following axis:
    1- Priority and Preemption: Evaluation of the features available in LTE to define priorities
    among users and applications;
    2- Device-to-Device (D2D) Communication: Extension of NS-3 simulation platform to evaluate
    the D2D capabilities of Release 12.
    *) Achievements:
    1- Analysed the available features in LTE to define priorities among users and applications.
    2- Designed, implemented and validated user scalable packet schedulers in LTE.
    3- Evaluated D2D communication capabilities in LTE networks (Release 12).
    4- Standard implementation
