Christophe de Callataÿ is an international association executive with a wealth of experience in association management, strategic communications and public affairs at EU level. He is currently the Managing Director for Europe, Israel and Africa of the global Association of Executive Search and Leadership Consultants (AESC), headquartered in New York, managing its Brussels-based European office. Beforehand, he was the Head of Communication and Partnerships at two leading - and most influential - EU business organizations, BUSINESSEUROPE (formerly UNICE) - the leading voice of enterprise in Europe - and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA), bringing together 33 European national pharmaceutical industry associations as well as 40 leading companies undertaking research, development and the manufacture in Europe of medicinal products for human use.

Christophe started his career in holding various positions in corporate communications at Solvay’s headquarters, acting as spokeperson for the Group. He also shortly worked as a press officer and policy adviser to the President of the Brussels Parliament, as a book-writer, a filmmaker and a free-lance journalist.

He holds a Master's Degree in Law (UCL), in Philosophy (UCL), in Journalism (ULB) and in International Politics (ULB) as well as an Executive Master in Management (CEPAC) from Solvay Business School. He also studied communications and filmmaking at Boston University (USA), as a laureate of the Belgian American Educational Foundation (BAEF).

    Doubled membership (from 37 in 2008 to 78 today) despite consolidation, attrition and economic recession. Audited all new applicants. Gained top-quality new members while developing long-lasting relationships with current members
    Advanced wide range of programs (educational trainings online webinars, partnerships) and upgraded marketing tools (revamped website, info kits, publications) resulting in overall enhanced member engagement and improved visibility to unprecedented level
    Successfully organized high-impact `must attend' Conferences across Europe (Madrid, London, Paris, Berlin, Brussels, Istanbul), securing top-level keynote speakers (e.g. world's most famous mountaineer Reinhold Messner, Adidas CEO Herbert Hainer, 2012 London Olympics CEO Paul Deighton) and 150+ delegates - as well as numerous regional and local networking events for Heads of Office to exchange views and best practices
    Advocacy: monitored all legal, policy and regulatory affairs impacting the executive search profession; developed position papers and Code of Conduct with Chief Counsels and law firms on key topics such as Women on Boards and the new EU General Data Protection Regulation
    Built up high-level relationships with key influencers, thought leaders and experts on talent management issues.   • European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations - Director of Communication

    1999 - 2007 Reporting to the Director General Head of the communication department of one of Europe's leading trade associations with direct responsibility for communications and partnerships.
    Key achievements:
    Developed and implemented new communication strategy (`think, act and partner differently)' reflecting new industry positioning on core public issues after intensive market research and securing buy-in from members
    Transformed EFPIA's communication tools (new visual ID, website, publications, newsletter, social media) as part of wide-ranging advertising and communication campaign (budget: EUR 1m) aiming at restoring industry's reputation, with the support of leading PR and public affairs agencies (APCO, Hill & Knowlton)
    Developed key messages and arguments in support of EFPIA's lobbying actions on EU Clinical Trials Directive, Paediatric Regulations, WTO TRIPs agreement, etc.
    Acted as spokesperson (with DG), web architect (www.efpia.eu), chief editor and industry coordinator on all communication issues.
    Represented EFPIA in various fora (EU Health Policy Forum) both in Brussels and Geneva (WHO).
    Set up and animated industry-wide network of communicators resulting in more rapid mobilisation of industry resources and enhanced coordination on key issues (rapid alerts, talking points and sharing of best practices)
    Organized press conferences with pharma industry CEOs and press trips for the international press at EFPIA's Annual Meetings
    Initiated, organized (with Forum Europe) and secured the funding of a major EU Conference on Access to Medicines in Developing Countries attended by 250+ delegates (incl. patient groups, NGOs and public health experts)

    Europe's leading business lobby group. Members of the confederation are 40 national industry and employers' organizations. The confederation is officially recognised as a social partner at European level, is involved in a range of economic and social decisions and cooperates with a number of stakeholders and business partners.

    Head of Department and member of management committee at one of Europe's most influential lobbying organisations - in charge of press relations, website and publications.
    Key achievements:
    Designed and implemented new communication strategy covering press relations, online & print media, events, website, relationships with member federations' communication departments
    Planned and organized bi-weekly meetings with Permanent Delegates to review and support UNICE's lobbying activities
    Managed relationships with UNICE's Corporate Advisory and Support Group bringing together corporate sponsors such as Philips, Diageo, Heineken, IBM, Accenture, etc.
    Acted as UNICE's spokesperson (with SG), managing press relationships (500+ press contacts)
    Occasionally represented UNICE at various EU events and in fora (e.g. Conference Board, AmCham EU, ERT, think tanks)
    Organized major press conference to mark the launch of UNICE's competiveness report attended by 85 journalists and generating international press coverage
