Ioannis VAGIAS

En résumé

At the beginning of his career, Ioannis managed technical teams for CRC Parnis, Athens GR & led the transformation of the Station from a Main Radar Site into a Regional C3 Station being the Site’s Communications & Electronics Flight.
After promotion to Pilot Officer, he was transferred to Larissa Aerodrome, Greece & was posted to 346 Squadron as Avionics Engineering Officer. During this time he funded his first MSc in Avionics Engineering & Logistics Management, & subsequently completed the Hellenic Army Software Analysis and Computer Programming Course. Later on he went on to command 346 Squadron, B flight, which dealt with O-level aircraft maintenance. During this tour he deployed to numerous stations across Greece and Europe to support national & allied operational activities.
At the end of his front line service, Ioannis succeeded in being sponsored for a second MSc this time in Guided Weapon Systems at Cranfield Defence & Security between 2007 and 2008. On promotion to Flight Lieutenant he was appointed as Manager, Weapons Systems Office, HAF Electronics Depot (Glyfada, Attica Greece) where he was responsible for development, validation & evaluation of HAF weapon systems.
After a successful 3 year tour, he was offered a job as Staff Officer, HAF General Staff, A1 Branch, Section 4, which is responsible for EW doctrine, operations & capability. He was also made National Representative for Greece on three NATO EW working groups; SIGINT EW Working Group, Electromagnetic Spectrum Denial Working Group and Airborne Platform Survivability Working Group.
In 2010, Flt Lt Vagias was awarded the Military Merit Medal, 3rd Class, elected member of RAeS and was qualified as Chartered Engineer. The following year and in recognition of his overall performance, he was knighted into the Order of the Phoenix, receiving the Golden Cross.
In the 2nd quarter of 2013, Ioannis resigned his commission and is now employed by Cranfield Defence & Security, as a lecturer in RADAR EW.
