Versatile Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering expert with over three decades of research experience in both academic and industrial organizations in the USA, Brazil and France.
I am comfortable elaborating and pitching an ambitious research program vision, implementing a research prototype, empirically evaluating its contributions to advancing the state-of-the-art, publishing research results, managing a research team and a large scale collaborative research and innovation project, fund-raising, recruiting, supervising doctoral theses, innovation consulting, teaching and elaborating a course curriculum.
My research has touched upon a wide range of topics including natural language generation and computational linguistics, web information retrieval, machine learning, data mining and knowledge discovery in OLAP data warehouses, intelligent agents, automated reasoning, knowledge representation, logic and constraint programming and more recently in AI-based automation of software-intensive system product line engineering, as well as business and software process engineering.
I am the happiest when learning new concepts and technologies, especially those coming from artificial intelligence research, and then figuring out with a team how to apply them in practice to generate measurable automation breakthroughs for a business process or engineering system.
I also have a strong interest in empirical software engineering attempts to measure with scientific rigor the productivity gains effectively delivered by competing methodologies, technologies and tools.
