  • CTC Theatre - Stage Manager

    2002 - 2009 I worked as Stage Manager, Technician, Actor, Set Designer and Set Maker, Workshop Co-ordinator, and Driver. I was hired on short show-based contracts, making hundreds of well-received school visits, and small-theatre performances. I created the UK version of the Leonardo machine, my interpretation of da Vinci's inventiveness, which was central to their most successful and toured play, subsequently invited to festivals around the world.

    1998 - 2000 I rapidly progressed from simple tasks to being able to lay expensive exotic hardwood floors, process wood from raw cut through to dried and planed, and finish handmade windows and doors.

    1996 - 2002 I assisted with budget, technical development, stage management, lighting and logistics on theatre performances ranging from small-auditorium visits through to vast outdoor promenading events.

    1988 - 1992 in the Department of Civil Engineering, for the Transport and Road Research Laboratory: Contract Researcher into Transmission of Environmental Noise Over Mixed Terrain
    (numerical modelling using boundary integral equations and then compared to acoustic modelling in an anechoic chamber). Papers published with Institute of Acoustics, NASA Conferences, and Journal of Sound and Vibration.

    Environmental Science & Pollution Control - A thorough trawl through all technical and management aspects of this new field. I learned how to quickly process, digest and summarise large quantities of technical information from wide ranging sources. My research looked at mathematical models for chimney plumes.
