After the veterinary school (1975) and with a doctorate in veterinary medicine (1977), I begin to work in classical, rural or semi-rural veterinary clinics. I join the veterinary school staff (1980) as assistant professor then the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA as french acronym). I was working on the epidemiology and the physiopathlogy of cattle diseases.
I joined CNES in 1985 as an astronaut. I worked, as a project scientist, up to 1993 on a NASA-CNES project which was cancelled few years before its completion. This was ending my chances to have a space flight. I then worked at CNES as programme scientist for biology and animal physiology in space up to 2004. Since then I am programme scientist for astrobiology and I am in charge of planetary protection in the institution.
