As the right hand man to the `general manager' of the international group of companies with main activities in Africa, within AMI NV my job in the main consisted of following up and leading projects, restructuring the African subsidiaries, assisting the general manager in the daily running of the group and the holding company based in Antwerp, member of the management committee... I was also the legal adviser for the Group and dealt with the most important legal matters (see job description `legal consultant' with parent company CMB)

Legal assistance is to be construed in its widest sense and ranges from providing ad hoc advice to in-depth advice, the drafting of contracts and the follow up of contracts including litigation before the courts and arbitration.
This job also encompassed commercial aspects such as assisting in the negotiating of contracts (e.g. contracts concerning the construction of a NB ship and the related financing therefore, sale and purchase of vessels and companies).The various legal disciplines with which I have been confronted are diverse but I have mainly dealt with contract law (both domestic and international), commercial law, corporate law, environmental law, labor law and procedural law. The international nature of CMB and the frequent trips abroad require a thorough knowledge of languages (mainly English and French). Indeed the language used within the CMB group is predominantly English.
