    2004 - 2006 Company Description

    After a successful marketing career, I was offered various roles to work with some of Australia's leading brands in their respective sectors, as well as working on some exciting initiatives in their early embryonic stages. The only way to do this was to work as an independent consultant. Hence RPPM, my marketing and communication consultancy initially based in Melbourne Australia.

    • Development of a range of initiatives to diversify and grow Australia’s largest and leading not-for-profit independent community radio broadcasters revenue base long-term – Triple R

    • Research, evaluation and development of an advocacy strategy and subsequent plan to take forward the active transport platform as part of the organisational strategic plan 2007 – 2010 - VicHealth
  • Melbourne City Mission - Marketing & Community Relations Manager

    2002 - 2004 Overview
    Melbourne Citymission was widely recognised across the Welfare Sector as a leader and innovator in the provision of services and support to the most marginalised in the Melbourne (Australia) community. The marketing, communications and fundraising strategy was completely revisited and realigned under my tenure providing the impetus for sustainable long-term results.

    Initiatives
    The development and implementation of a marketing and communication strategy to build the profile and improve the long-term fundraising position, which included:
    * Development and implementation of a new visual identity strategy to reposition Melbourne Citymission as a leader and an innovative community organisation to existing and emerging market segments - the introduction of a sub brand strategy across 6 service areas and 50 programs;
    * Restructure of the marketing and fundraising department to realise the plans and objectives as set out in the marketing and communication strategy;
    * The diversification of all fundraising programs; and
    * Overhaul of the advertising, promotion, media and public relations across all of the marketing and fundraising activities including appeals, donor acquisition campaigns, corporate development, special events, etc.

    Achievements/Outcomes
    * 33% improvement in fundraising outcome from budget position 2002/03 financial year;
    * Return on fundraising investment increased by 12%;
    * Restructure of the marketing and fundraising department creating a new community relation and communication teams to drive the branding and corporate identity review and upgrade;
    * Development and diversification of the events portfolio and direct marketing which improved the awareness, fundraising and reversed the rate of donor database atrophy into a position of growth and acquisition.
  • Yarra Trams - Business Development Manager

    1999 - 2002 Overview

    Yarra Trams, a Transdev and Transfield services partnership, operated 50% of the tram service in Melbourne as part of the State Government privatisation of public transport, only later assuming the management and operation of the entire tram network in Melbourne due to their performance.

    Initiatives/Outcomes
    * Reposition public transport as part of an industry marketing body and steering committee working on the public transport rebranding and upgraded information delivery platforms (creation and roll out of the Metlink brand);
    * Drive the new vision for public transport (Trams) across all stakeholder groups including state and local government, user groups and the broader general community;
    * Liaison with developers, public servants and the community to identify network expansion opportunities;
    * Liaison with State and Local Government on key initiatives and major project deliverables

    Key Projects / Achievements
    * Tram 109 program: Major infrastructure upgrade project employing techniques and innovations from successful European models on the Port Melbourne to Mont Albert Route that drove a new vision for public transport in Melbourne, which is still driving infrastructure development today.
    * Introduction of Low Floor Trams & Superstop program: Latest state of the art trams and supporting infrastructure that provided a new level of service and amenity to customers that operated on the new Tram 109 program.
    * Information Upgrade Initiatives: Major infrastructure improvement program at key locations improving customer amenity and information delivery across the public transport network - real time information, trip planners and upgrade of all customer information.

    1997 - 1999 Overview
    Located in the Yarra Valley, Healesville Sanctuary is part of Zoo's Victoria and is one of Australia's leading wildlife, education and conservation centres winning state and national tourism words

    Role/Initiatives
    * Development and implementation of Healesville Sanctuary Marketing Plan, including the development of business and marketing plans for Healesville Sanctuary profit centres in
    * Increase visitation by identifying key market opportunities and developing new products and services to rejuvenate the product offer
    * Responsible for the development and implementation of focused research and subsequent marketing activities to primary and secondary target audience segments to identify and capitalise on emerging market opportunities

    Achievements
    * Real growth in visitation 1997-99 , while general visitation trends of other major competing attractions in Metropolitan Melbourne were in decline
    * Creation of a series of events, promotions and initiatives which generated publicity 10 fold the initial advertising and promotion investment exceeding all visitation/participation projections
    * Relationship development and management - strategic alliances and partnerships with Eastern Energy, Schweppes, Cadbury, Streets, Australia Post, Fox FM, Network Ten, TT FM, Triple R, The Age, Mt Buller Ski Lifts, Peregrine Adventures, Local Government, Community Aid Abroad ;
  • Davids Timber - Assistant Manager & Marketing

    1994 - 1997 Responsibilities
    • Direct report to Directors of the company, developing and coordinating all marketing programs, channel programs and promotional activities.
    • Responsible for the development of products in accordance with objectives and marketing plans - developed a new successful range of garden grade timbers, and brand extensions of existing range.
    • Development and implementation of focused research and subsequent marketing activities to primary and secondary target audience segments.
    • Responsible for gathering and analysis of all competitive product and promotional information, accessible to the Director on a real-time basis.
    • Responsible for development and implementation of updated computer systems improving maintenance of records and customer related data base information

    Achievments
    • Real growth in annual turnover for first two years of strategic plans 23%.
    • Developed a new successful range of exterior garden grade timber products - the catalyst in identifying and capturing new core markets – 8% of company growth
    • As part of the company’s redirection, developed corporate id documents, tender documents, and targeted marketing and promotional campaigns, resulting in securing large supply contracts with local authorities, civil construction companies, and garden suppliers – 15% of company growth

    1990 - 1993 Company Description
    Overview
    Seasonal ski resort in the Alpine area of Victoria, Australia consisting of a 60 room 3 star mixed accommodation, including serviced appartments and hotel rooms with bars, restaurants, disco and live music venue and ski hire

    Responsibilities
    • Initially employed as a bar person, I was promoted to a Shift Supervisor, Assistant Bar Manager then Bar Manager
    • Bar Manager during the ski season and onsite hotel manager in the off season
    • Supervision of over 50 staff including all bar, restaurant service staff and security during the ski season
    • Stock control and rostering of bar staff
    • Onsite hotel manager during the off season coordinating and supervising all staff
