Sophie Richard (AgoParisTech- Joint Research Unit G-Eau - water management, actors and uses-) is a water & forestry engineer and an agro-economist. She specializes in water resource management, environment and rural development. Her competence is based on a strong field expertise, an international experience and a large professional network.

She has initially been involved for two years in environmental and rural development projects’ management, as young expert head of the European Commission’s technical and financial co-operation with NGO’s in Bolivia.

Then, as a state officer responsible for the local implementation of natural resources’ public policies, she had a 4-year concrete field experience in environmental and water resource management in France.

She was then involved for 5 years at ENGREF, as co-director of the Master of Advanced Studies in water management. She has specialized in integrated water management and water governance issues, including international approaches. She has been the ENGREF’s coordinator for the GovAgua project.

She is currently head of the water management unit at AgroParisTech. She is acting as interface between local and national levels, between initial & professional training, professional sector and research. She still contributes, as a water engineer and lecturer, to postgraduate level curricula and to professional training, including international approaches.
She has specialised on public action analysis in the field of water management and environment policies. Over the past years she has been involved in applied research projects focusing on water public policies, stakeholders and institutions, in Europe and Latin America. Her expertise and research interests are related to: (i) interdisciplinary approaches to water policy-making that deal with different territorial scales, multiple stakeholders and competitive water uses, and (ii) analysis of water management & water governance, how this has evolved in the past and what the stakes for the future are.

Her main working languages are French, English and Spanish.
