I am a Burundian and I have a great experience in IDPs and Refugees assistance, legal aid, conflict management and peace building programmes.
I worked with NRC ( Norwegian Refugee Council) in Burundi and Côte d'Ivoire. During 4 years, I worked in the ICLA (Information, Counseling and Legal Assistance) programme where I held the positions of Legal Trainer, Project Coordinator Assistant, Project Coordinator, Program Manager Assistant, NRC International Trainee and Legal and Protection Coordinator. The ICLA program provides information, advice and guidance on legal issues such as identity documents, land disputes, family conflicts and gender-based violence with emphasis on mediation in land conflicts issues. The main target groups are refugees, Internal Displaced Persons and Returnees. I have been involved in the development of all ICLA activities and have been a key contributor in this Programme.
In Côte d'Ivoire, I was involved in the implementation of the legal aid program to assist the IDPs and returnees to access their identity documents and their properties. I have initiated agreements between various communities in their land disputes and have helped set up teams of lawyers-mediators who are now working on land conflicts.
This experience helped me to develop some skills such as human resource management, Project drafting and the project cycle management, budget management; monitoring-evaluation. The development of training tools and trainings provided in land management has assured me a certain expertise in the alternative dispute resolution.
In addition to these skills, I developed human relations as I was working in a multicultural context through collaboration and coordination of various organizations. My activities were in transition between humanitarian emergency and development even if I had sometimes to deal with emergencies and stressful situations, especially in managing land conflicts between communities in Côte d'Ivoire.
I am for now a Democratization and Peace Building Programme Officer in Uganda and Kenya within ICCO (Interchurch Organization for Development and Cooperation), an organization involved in early recovery programme. In this position, I have an overview of the socio-politic situation on Great-Lakes and I've already set up a number of partnerships towards building everlasting Peace and democracy in the Region.
