    2015 - 2018 My thesis consists at visually enriching UML diagrams based on the Semiology of Graphics (SoG). The SoG is the reference in the cartography field. Jaques Bertin, the author, defines a set of 7 visual variables (i.e., position, size, brightness, grain, color, orientation and shape), their perceptive properties and objective rules to build effective graphical representations. An effective graphical representation allows the human reader to answer a particular question in a short time compared to another less effective one. My work consists at providing a scientitfic framework based on the SoG to better take advantages of the visual variables in UML. The work in the thesis is a complementary work of the Cognitive dimensions framework [1] and the Physics of notations framework [2] .
