Dr Abderrahim Merzak is Founder-President of global professional social networks for open innovation (opeNovus), education (almadrassa) and higher education (aljamiaa). He is also the Founder and Chairman of the USA-Muslim World Science & Technology Convergence Initiative as well as the USA-Muslim World Science & Technology Summit.
Dr Merzak held lecturer positions at the Universities of Paris XI and London as well as Assistant Professor at the UAE University. He has taught cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, genetic engineering and biotechnology. In 1998 he created two companies in Dubai and in 2001, two companies in Morocco in technology transfer, content production, consulting and event management. He has organized several international B2B and B2G partnership events in biotechnology, environment, agriculture, medicine, information technologies, digital government... in France, UK, UAE and Morocco.
Dr Merzak held also managerial positions in Biotech and consulting companies and advised prestigious private and public institutions in the Arab World and the United Arab Emirates, in particular.
He won several awards and funds provided by international agencies such as: Terry Fox Foundation, British Council, Wellcome Trust, World Cancer Research Fund, USA-International Human Frontier Science Program, Fondation Simone and Cino Del Duca, British Neuropathological Society, "Brain" journal, European Molecular Biology Organization, Leverhulme Trust, French League against cancer, Curie Institute.
Dr Merzak is founder and board member of several national and international scientific societies and associations.
Abderrahim Merzak has a Ph.D. in molecular and cellular biology of cancer from the University of Paris VII (Institut Curie) (1992), holds a Master degree of molecular oncology and two Bachelors of Molecular and Cell Biology and Genetics. He is married and father of three children.
