  • Freelance ROV - ROV Pilot Tech

    2004 - maintenant Presently based in central France and working as contract ROV technician with experience of various ROV systems both eyeball and work class, though also interested to work in engineering role. On moving to France in earlier years I have developed a successful farm business.
    Usual activities include:-
    Performing preventative maintenance on the ROV and associated equipment using mechanical, hydraulic and electrical skills. Pilot navigate ROV, ability to understand drawings and subsea structures/activities in construction, decommissiong and inspection.
    Participate in environmental, health and safety improvement.
  • Offshore Crane Engineering - Client contract manager

    1998 - 2001 Managed “life of field” contracts concerning the maintenance and crewing of offshore platform cranes and supply of rigging lofts. Tasks included client liaison, developing and implementation of planned maintenance programmes, organising shut down engineering work, finding and managing subcontractors, purchasing and management of spares and administration of lifting equipment certification and testing.
  • National Oilwell Varco - Project Engineer

    Houston 1995 - 1996 Project management, fabrication of pipe elevators and bridges for carrying drill string elements, for the Hibernia platform, Canada.
    • Provided customer liaison, as point of contact, issued progress reports arranged and attended project meetings with suppliers and client.
    • Managed suppliers and subcontractors of steel fabrications, hydraulics components and fabricated assemblies.
    • Worked with in house drafting personnel in detailing of fabrications and resolving design queries with client and stress analysis engineers.
    • Supervised function and FAT tests of assemblies.
    • Produced final project documentation as required by customer.

  • WWF - Mechanical Engineer

    Paris 1990 - 1994 Established / managed maintenance workshops in Nigeria and Cameroon for National parks operated in conjunction with WWF in three regions. Fleet equipment maintained included 4WD diesel (110 Land-Rover Toyota land cruisers) and petrol vehicles, diesel generators, caterpillars, tractors and pumps etc. in six locations.
    • Recruited and trained local staff in maintenance activities from simple servicing to vehicle rebuilds.
    • Developed systems of administration and accountability through local workshop staff and driver/mechanics.
    • Provided regular reports both financial and descriptive to local and UK based project managers.
    • Supported local mangers in operational activities.
    • Sourced and managed spare parts both locally and imported.
    • Developed revenue streams to fund department through external customers eg ODA, NCF
    • Prepared contract rebidding information for EU funding.

  • Marley Automotive - Project Engineer

    1987 - 1990 Developed manufacturing plant for the production of molded polyurethane foam automotive components requiring the knowledge of punch presses, water jet cutting robots and hydraulics. These components had to meet quality and cost constraints of the European car industry.
    • Project management of various large and small projects both plant and product related.
    • Supervision of workshop technicians in modifications of manufacturing plant.
    • Worked with line operatives to produce solutions to production problems.
    • Carried numerous feasiblity studies into manufacturing plant improvements.
    • Managed suppliers of tooling components and assemblies.
    • Participate on multidisciplinary product development and production teams.
    • Improved and provided new buildings services ie sprinkler systems and water storage tanks, found suppliers and managed contracts.
