Fizal KHAN
Profile:
I have acquired considerable experience working with a number of internationally recognized European designer brands, luxury fashion houses and major Asian fashion groups.
My professional experience encompasses the whole range of men’s wear products from, made to measure and high-end ‘sartorial’ tailoring of coats and suits, both formal and informal separates, to shirts, knit wear, outerwear and casual sportswear, completed with accessory collections; ties, shoes, belts and small leather goods, eye-wear and cufflinks etc.
To complement this, I have also in the course of my experience, gained an in depth knowledge of luxury fabrics and have a privileged relationship with many of the fabric designers working in the most respected and creative mills in Italy together with a knowledge of high quality production resources and a wide network of contacts.
My ‘know-how’ spans the creation of men’s wear fashion collections from initial mood, silhouette and colour stories to specific fabric research, ‘technical’ flat sketches and the follow through to sample fittings and corrections.
In addition, I have always been fully aware of the important role played by advertising and the diverse methods of communication in the promotion of brand image and awareness. Consequently, I have, wherever possible, taken an active role in the planning of showroom presentations and runway shows and in the conceptualization of fashion catalogues and other image related, promotional mediums.
My long standing involvement with the south-east Asian market - Japan, Hong Kong Korea etc, has given me invaluable insight and understanding into each country’s particular marketing and merchandising practices. Particularly when dealing with the licensed products of European luxury brands and their brand image and promotion in these important foreign markets.
Even though my international design experience has been overwhelmingly influenced by the Italian, sartorial aesthetic my formative years were spent in England where I went through the English education system until my graduation from St Martin’s. This has meant that I can also bring to my work, should the brief demand it that particularly British skew on aesthetics regarding detail, cut, colour, volume and proportion and the interesting juxtaposition of those elements.
My experience as an all-round industry professional could, I feel, best be used as a creative or artistic director on a creative yet commercially viable luxury or high end men’s wear brand. As the head of design I would be responsible for directing and orienting the design team or studio with whom I would work as the creative leader but also as a team player. I would collaborate with the creative team to establish the design direction and merchandising concepts and with other company executives and creatives decide on the brand image and how to pitch the overall creative profile of the brand; boutique decoration, fashion shows, marketing, advertising, media strategy etc.
I would relish the opportunity to take on a luxury brand and build on its inherent DNA foundation, in an intelligent, coherent manner and impart a new creative edge.
My approach and personal vision would bring to bear all of my experience to help to create a modern men’s wear brand and a product which would be both creative and commercially viable. The product offer would ideally include all the elements of the contemporary male ‘lifestyle’ wardrobe, from formal to informal and satisfy the exigencies of an increasingly discerning and informed, domestic or international customer.
