Previously, Gilbert started to work in 1996 as a full time researcher for INRIA (French national computer science institute) in the embedded systems domain. In 1998, he took charge of a R&D collaboration project with Texas Instruments concerning Java acceleration technologies. He joined the Wireless Terminal Business Unit of Texas Instruments in 2003 as a software manager on an advanced hardware Java acceleration program. In 2006 he took the head of the program, became Senior Member of Technical Staff, Patent Board Member and Strategic Chief Technical Officer. He left Texas Instruments in 2007 to found FlexyCore, taking on the role of Chief Executive Officer. In 2012 FlexyCore was acquired by Google Inc to be part of Android.
Between 2012 and Feb 2018 he is Engineering Manager for Android at Google, leading the Rennes office. With his team he is in charge of the Android Studio Compiler Toolchain shipping their contributions either to Android OEMs to build the Android platform and to all Android developers.
He left Google in Feb 2018 to create its new startup: ScaleDynamics. Stay tuned!
Gilbert holds a computer science Ph.D. from Rennes University, a total of 78 Patents from different working places (Google, FlexyCore, Texas Instruments, INRIA). He published 2 book chapters, 4 computer science papers, 21 International conferences articles and participates to lots of Android workshops for Developers and OEMS.
