Jean Dessain is a Debt & Equity capital market expert: he is the former General Manager Capital & Funding at Fortis (2000 – 2010). He has been retained as industry expert by the Committee of European Banking Supervisors on capital matters and has been regularly invited around the world as guest speaker on the funding and capital management topics.
Over the past 10 years, Jean has structured various capital instruments and has led more than EUR 30 billion capital raising transactions in Europe, Asia and the US, some of these deals being awarded internationally.
He has been involved at senior level in M&A deals for more than EUR 40 billion. Jean has also been member of ALM Committees and has taken care for capital management, the relationship with rating agencies and investor relations.
Since 2010, he is also adjunct professor of finance at IESEG School of Management.
Jean started his banking career in 1991 as trader in interest rate derivatives and successfully developed the business at Paribas Belgium (1991-1998), before joining ABN Amro Belgium from 1998 to 2000.
Jean’s primary areas of expertise are in capital raising and capital management, financing strategy, derivatives and market risk advisory.
Jean holds a Master in Economics (1989) and a Master in Law (1988), both from UCL (Belgium); he published various articles on hybrid capital, deal financing and tax matters.
