CONTEXT: Building have an increasing impact on the environment. Indeed, construction is using more and more ressources, comsuming more and more energy and is responsible for a large portion of carbon emissions.
PROJECT: The focus is set on materials and how to select them in order to reduce the impact of the building on the environment. Questions as: what is a sustainable building? What is a green materials? What are the relevant criterion to define a green material? How does the certification model such as LEED help to reduce the increasing consumption of building? are at the center of the project.
WORK DONE/PLANNED:
- Comparison of different material selection tool;
- Assessment of the energy used to produce a cover floor material;
- Development of a tool to select building materials in agreement with sustainable development in order to help decision makers;
- Writing recommendation regarding the green building certification.
Siemens Wind Power A/S - Brande - DENMARK
- 6-month Internship as Engineer assistant
CONTEXT: Siemens Wind Power A/S is a windturbine manufacturer. Some of the component are made of cast iron and are subject sometimes to a defect called Chunky Graphite.
PROJECT: The project was part time dedicated to define when, how and why the chunky graphite are appearing in cast iron. And part time dedicated to tasks of the everyday working life within the Material Department.
WORK DONE:
- Bibliography;
- Investigation of the component;
- Preparation of samples and observation;
- Writting of a survey.
