  • PETRARCA CAPITAL MANAGEMENT LLC - MANAGING PARTNER

    2012 - 2014 Co-founded a Global Financial Sector focused Equity Long/Short Hedge Fund. Co-managed a truly global fund: investing across European, Latin American, Asian, as well as North American financials securities. Portfolio strategy was fairly concentrated (typically 10-20 themes) and directional (generally 20-50% net exposure, long or short) but only in liquid securities and with limited leverage (<2x gross exposure).
  • PAULSON & CO. - PARTNER & HEAD OF GLOBAL FINANCIALS EX INSURANCE

    2008 - 2012 Joined as VP and subsequently promoted to SVP, Partner, and then to Partner, Head of the Global Financials ex Insurance & Asset Management. Together with a four member team, was responsible for developing the investment thesis, identifying the best manner to exploit the opportunities, and recommending the entry and exit points to the firm's founder and sole portfolio manager. Responsible positions averaged more than one quarter of the firm's total exposure across the multiple funds.
  • BANC OF AMERICA SECURITIES - PRINCIPAL, CONSUMER & SPECIALTY FINANCE EQUITY RESEARCH

    2004 - 2008 Recruited to re-establish equity research coverage of Specialty & Consumer Finance companies. Sub sectors covered for client and investment banking support: GSEs, Residential Mortgage Lenders & Insurers, Credit Card Lenders & Networks, Student & other Specialty Consumer Lenders, Commercial Real Estate & other Specialty Commercial Lenders, as well as Publicly Traded Private Equity Vehicles.
  • CAPITAL ONE - VP, FINANCIAL STRATEGY

    Richmont 2003 - 2004 Identified transactions to further Capital One's foremost strategic goal to become a diversified consumer financial firm. Leading member of a team charged with ascertaining diversification opportunities, determining prioritization and whether to build or acquire to realize the opportunity. Identified, analyzed, and evaluated potential acquisitions. Aided the development and execution of due diligence plans. Coordinated with business and function heads to design and manage integration efforts.
  • LEHMAN BROTHERS - SVP, US MIDCAP BANK EQUITY RESEARCH

    2002 - 2003 Equity research coverage for client and Investment banking support of 26 regional US banks.
  • LEHMAN BROTHERS - DIRECTOR OF LATIN AMERICAN EQUITY RESEARCH

    2000 - 2002 Recruited to re-establish Latin American Equity Research and provide research coverage of Financial Institutions. Recruited, managed and aided the development of a 5 member publishing analyst team (plus five junior analysts). Quadrupled the firm's Top 10 ranking in clients' polls, and doubled the trading revenues with one half the previous headcount. Team's efforts were integral to investment banking efforts, generating over $18 million in revenues in 2002.
  • BEAR STEARNS - MD PRINCIPAL, LATIN AMERICAN FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS EQUITY RESEARCH

    Paris 1997 - 2000 Recruited to provide Equity Research coverage of Latin American Financials as MD, later promoted to MD-Principal. Authored equity research and provided support for Investment Banking on 26 Latin American financial institutions.
  • SANTANDER INVESTMENT - VP, HEAD OF LATIN AMERICAN FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS EQUITY RESEARCH

    1996 - 1997 Initially recruited for coverage of Mexican Banks subsequently promoted to head up Pan Latin American coverage. Authored client research and provided Investment Banking support on 28 financial institutions. Recruited, supervised, and aided the development of the five analysts. Provided valuation advice to senior management for five Banco Santander acquisitions in the region.
  • SCOTIABANK - MANAGER, LATIN AMERICAN CREDIT & INVESTMENTS

    Toronto 1993 - 1995 Authored country risk and banking industry background reports on Latin American countries for senior management. Identified bank acquisition opportunities outside of Canada and recommended courses of action to senior management. Aided in the due diligence and participated in negotiations. Analyzed financial performance and recommended action on non-banking investments made in the region as well as on the bank’s portfolio of sovereign LDC debt.
