2010 - 2014 We use acute myeloid leukemias (AML) as a model system for taking the first step towards
description development of truly individualized therapeutic protocols for the treatment of this disease. Our strategy relies on isolation of candidate cell populations needed for sustaining the leukemia, followed by a characterization of their genetic programs. This can reveal their central molecular defect(s). Such strategy allows for the implementation of proper individualized therapeutic protocols and provide guidelines for the development of novel drugs.

The goal of the present project is to use dynamical models to simulate both passive difusional
description and transporter mediated fluxes or permeabilities of APIs across an in vitro biological barrier.
By fitting a novel mathematical model to experimental data, the model is validated, refined, or
expanded, according to a ``Hypothesis, Modelling, Experiment Loop'' until the experimental
    and theoretical approaches agreed.

Bioinformatics and Simulation of the Immune System

    supervisors Ole Lund, Søren Brunak

The author creates a matrix method to predict major histocompatibility complex
class I and II epitopes with the ability to cover a large part of the human population . This
was subsequently incorporated into a simulation program of the immune system, C-ImmSim. This
is an extension of earlier work attempting to integrate bioinformatics and systems biology .
Subsequently, the role of memory cells in infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is
explored using mathematical models (ODE). The model is used in a general framework where the virus
is allowed to mutate. The model shows that the virus can establish a chronic infection by mutating
to stay one step ahead of the immune system. By combining host-specific epitope predictions and
mathematical models describing the interaction between the host immune system and infectious agents,
it is possible to make predictions of the evolution of diseases on a patient basis, an important step
    towards personalized medicine
