I am Process Engineer working for the Engineering Services for Ambatovy SA - Madagascar. I have 6 year experiences. I am familiar with Engineering tasks: design according to the engineering and safety rules , lead project where different discipline is involved, investigate the cause of process deviation. You can see below few of the projects that I led:
From May 2011 to February 2012: Lead of the project: Improvement of the autoclave mechanical seal supply system reliability.
During the plant startup, the plant met big problem with the five (05) leaching autoclaves. Due to a wrong design of the mechanical seal supply of the autoclave agitators, minimum of one (01) mechanical seal per month was broken. USD 400 000 is required to repair one (01) mechanical seal failed. This value does not include the manpower cost required. To solve the problem, new design was developed and the startup & shutdown sequences were modified. This project allowed the company to save around USD 5 000 000 per year. Different discipline was involved in the project: mechanical, piping, instrumentation, electrical and civil.
From April 2013 to October 2016: Lead of the project: Develop design to improve the capacity of the refinery to remove the Iron from the process.
The cost of this project was USD 4 500 000. The concentration of the iron contained in the raw liquor was higher than expected. After the iron precipitation, the filter supposed to remove the solids from the process was not big enough. This situation affected badly the operation. To solve the problem, design and implementation of new unit to remove the iron was required. The new unit consists of:
• Two (02) centrifuges.
• Two (02) tanks.
• Four (04) pumps.
From August 2015 to December 2015: Lead of the project: Investigate the cause of the inability of the current equipment to maintain the level of water at the TMF during rainy season and proposed solution.
This job allows the company to understand the cause of the high water level at the TMF during the rainy season. The potential consequence is the environmental issue if the TMF fails. To solve the problem, budget of around USD 3 500 000 is required.
From November 2016 up to now: Technical lead of the project: Improvement of the H2S compressors reliability.
The company has two (02) H2S compressors which get reliability issue. The maintenance cost requires by those compressors is around USD 1 800 000 per year. And the plant losses around USD 5 000 per day when one (01) compressor does not run. My job is to find out the real cause of the failure and to ensure that the solution given by the supplier of the compressors will provide reliability to the compressors.
