Qualifications: Strong writing and editing skills; ability to establish rapport with people of all cultures and ages; exposure to people with varying levels of English, having lived in Poland, Sudan and Kuwait, among others, in addition to my native country, the United States.
Professional skills: My copy editing and writing background, combined with a multicultural upbringing that demanded communicating in several languages, have made me uniquely sensitive to the nuances of written and verbal communication and the pitfalls of language acquisition, as well as given me a feel for what it takes to communicate clearly and accurately.
Leadership and organizational skills: Served as news editor at a weekly newspaper, where I contributed occasional opinion pieces, managed a team of journalists, and edited stories covering issues relevant to Detroit, Michigan.
EXPERIENCE
Teaching experience :
Auto-entrepreneur (2013 to present) : Help professionals and students improve their written and verbal communication through a method that focuses mostly on conversational English – the essence of language acquisition – with exercises used only as an aid to bolster problem areas. Attention is also paid to developing clear pronunciation. I have a neutral, non-regional American accent that trainees find easy to understand.
ILTC – International Language & Training Consultants – (2012 to 2013) : Taught English to professionals over the phone and in face-to-face individual and group sessions.
Other experiences :
Freelance editor/translator/miscellaneous (2005 to 2012) : Helped copyedit articles for various online publications, and did occasional Polish-to-English translation among various other jobs.
News editor (2002 to 2005) : The Michigan Citizen Newspaper, Detroit. Copy edited and assigned stories concerning Detroit, and assisted writers in developing a more concise, organized writing style.
