I am a Public health medical doctor specialized in health system management. I have been working for the UNFPA since 2001 as regional advisor on HIV/AIDS
I began my professional career in November 1983 and held various positions at national and international levels, respectively as the head of the district Health Management team, national health program Coordinator, Assistant Director of Epidemiology, Hygiene and sanitation at the Ministry of health (national level) and then USAID’s HIV/AIDS Technical Advisor, Director of the West and Central Africa Research Network, Resident Advisor for the USAID funded Family Health and AIDS program managed by several US based Cooperative Agencies/institutions including JHPIEGO, JHU, JSI, PSI, Tulane University and FHI.
I am known as a complex problems solver and I have held progressively higher positions during my career in the international development during the 31-year experience in this sector. My twelve year experience with UNFPA gave me the opportunity to be familiar with the organization and learn all aspects of its mandate and mission, having worked with the 23 countries in West and Central Africa region and beyond with different levels of authorities. From the regional office based in Dakar, Senegal, I have been focal point for countries and it gave me a great opportunity to live and contribute to solving usual problems faced by staff working at that level as providing appropriate technical and programmatically support to the country offices. I have a quite great experience of team management, policy dialogue and resource mobilization, resource based management, quality of tools, conformity of norms and procedures competences, human rights based approaches and also known as an advocate for assuring accountability requirements are applied.
From 2010 to 2011 I was enrolled in training in Management at the Goizueta Business School of the Emory University in Atlanta, GA in the United States. The training successively covered Finance for Non-Financial Managers, Management Development Program and then Critical Thinking and Decision Making; I also got the opportunity of training in Management at the Stellenbosch University in South Africa.
I have worked and conducted several technical and strategic missions to several countries and I am familiar with their priorities. I strongly believe that all these accumulated experiences from the field as well as knowledge gained through the learning I was exposed to in the past and recently constitute a bulk of wealth I possess.
