Career Path
I was born and brought up in the little town Taroudant, a Moroccan city located in the southern part of the country.

My favorite subjects in school was math, Physics and chemistry for as long as I can remember. After earning my M.Sc and Doctorate in solid state electronic from University de Bourgogne, France.

I moved back to Morocco and began my career in the University Mohamed V Morocco. While working in the faculty of sciences/Rabat, I conducted research in “Laboratoire d´Electrochemie Interfaciale, CNRS Meudon Bellevue, France”. I also attend two summer schools for the Training of Physician Scientists. I was fortunate to work on quatum mechanics with Bernard Diu (co-author with Claude Cohen-Tannoudji for well known Quantum mechanics textbooks). I enjoyed the physics behind the Nobel prizes of Planck, Einstein, Bohr, Heisenberg, Schrödinger, Pauli. Then I had three-year leave to conduct research at the Hahn-Meitner-Institute-Berlin for my Habilitation degree in Germany. My time for my habilitation at the Hahn-Meitner-Institute was a great experience. There were days that were tough. I wondered if I'd ever finish what my advisor asked of me. I wondered if I could really solve the problem in front of me so that I could finish my Habilitation thesis. But there were days that were great. I got my papers published. I solved problems I didn't think I could solve. I knew more about the research I was doing than anyone else in the world. I finished my Habilitation and was on to my next adventure as associate professor at University Mohamed V. I was appointed Professor of Physics in 1993, There I taught several advanced courses on Quantum Mechanics and Statistical Physics. I designed curriculum for Bachelor degree on material sciences, targeting students entering the business world after getting their bachelor's degrees. I designed and taught courses for Master degree on material characterisation, Photovoltaics, photoelectrochemistry with particular interest to water splitting. I enjoyed working with the textbooks series: Advances in Electrochemical Science and Engineering edited by Heinz Gerischer.. I Worked with lovely graduate PhD students and and assistant professors, built together a research group in material synthesis for photovoltaics. I love talking to my students and helping them see the connections between what they are learning and the environment.
All my PhD students have been awarded for working abroad (in Germany, Japan, UK) for completing experiments that are not available in Morocco. They were able presenting their work at many conferences, authored professional papers, they wrote a good PhD thesis and fortunately found a good job.
The University Mohamed V, was Good times and some very bad times, but all an adventure. I left Morocco and moved to Germany, the Last Adventure, or Just Another Adventure.
Actually, I am working as senior scientist and group leader in the "Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH", in Berlin / Germany

In my group we never stop learning, brainstorming and collaborating to solve complex material problems for sustainable solutions. We are exploring nanosynthesis, structure, and properties of thin film and nanostructured materials. We are using large scale facilities synchrotron radiation source BESSY II exploring the next generation of solar cells.

Our research includes the synthesis of new materials and innovative cell structures with particular interest to rare earth elements scarcity issues, and potential environmental issues.
My current goals are to develop efficient and competitive thin film solar cells to a stage where industrial applications can follow as the next step.
Along with academic life I am fortunate to have a loving and supporting family.
