JFC Brunssum is a deployable joint headquarters capable to execute effective command and control over an assigned Joint Task Force.
The Exercise and Preparation Branch is responsible for planning, developing, programming, organizing and conducting collective training and exercise events.
As an Exercise Planner within the Current Operations Training and Exercise Delivery Section, my principal duties are:
- plan, develop, coordinate and implement training events in order to prepare staffs before deployment,
- develop exercise planning documents,
- prepare and participate in various exercise planning meetings,
- check the coherence of allocated funding ressources with the requirements of the assigned exercises.

Operational Sea Training Division delivers through-life operational training across all disciplines for all types of French surface warships and other Navies that wish to make use of its world class services.
Starting with basic alongside preparatory safety and readiness training, units progress through single-
threat and multi-threat scenarios to advanced tactical training at Task Group level. This is achieved through a structured system of relevant and focussed operational training, with an emphasis throughout on realism, including battle damage simulation and all aspects of war fighting.
I acted as Team leader for sea training onboard ships, in order to check operational capabilities such as navigation process, fire fighting and damage control.
I specialized in management of all the aspects of Maritime Interdiction Operation training.

- Executive Officer - frigate "Vendémiaire"

The main tasks of this frigate, based in New-Caledonia, are:
- control of the navigation (illegal trafficking and immigration) and surveillance of fisheries in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ)
- grounding of intervention components
- Non-combattant Evacuation Operation.
With amenities, including an on-board helicopter, the frigate has the potential detection and optimal weapons to strengthen the French presence in overseas territories.
The Executive Officer is the direct representative of the Commanding Officer (CO) in maintaining the general efficiency of the ship.
As such, I was responsible to the CO for carrying out all assigned duties :
- human resource management
- supervision of daily and special routines, duty watch (including the preparation of duty roster) and rounds
- general bearing and discipline, requestmen and defaulters routine
- fire drill procedures and practices, safety of ship and personnel
- regular attendance, and that AWOLs are kept to a minimum
- general supervision of the training program in accordance with the training syllabus and schedules
- overseeing the Quarter deck (routine, procedures and duty personnel) and proper usage of the Ship's Log
- co-ordinating Officers' meetings
- Liaison Officer for the Chiefs and Petty Officers
As the second in command, I assumed command in the absence of the Commanding Officer.

The main purpose of this frigate is anti-submarine warfare in coastal waters.
He also ensures missions, such as:
- support Strategic Submarine Forces
- surveillance of maritime approaches.

After completing their basic training in Naval Academy, cadets joined « Jeanne d’Arc » for a six-month Initial Fleet Time in order to gain more sea experience. They worked towards their Navigational Watch Certificate as an Officer of the Watch. They also developped their skills during the Initial Warfare Officers’ Course.
As a Training Management Officer, I was responsible for the education and training of young officers, especially in Maritime Interdiction Operation.
As an officer of the deck (OOD), I took charge of the safe and proper operation of the ship.
My duties, responsibilities and authority were:
- being aware of the tactical situation and geographic factors that may affect safe navigation and taking action to avoid the danger of grounding or collision
- issuing necessary orders to the helm and main engine control to avoid danger, to take or keep an assigned station, and to change course and speed following the orders of proper authority
- making all required reports to the CO
- supervising the personnel on watch on the bridge, ensuring all deck log entries are made, and signing the log at the end of the watch
- being aware of the status of the engineering plant and keeping the engineering officer of the watch advised of power requirements
- carrying out the routine of the ship as published in the plan of the day and other ship’s directives
- supervising and conducting on-the-job training for the cadets.

- Navigation Department Head / Boarding Officer - destroyer (ASW) "de Grasse"

Destroyer "de Grasse" was a multi-purpose ship that was useful in almost any kind of naval operation. Specialized in anti-submarine warfare, his principal mission was to operate offensively and defensively against submarines and surface ships and to take defensive action against air attacks. He also provided gunfire support for amphibious assaults and performed patrol, search, and rescue missions.
As a department head onboard a navy ship, I was responsible for and reported to the CO the operational readiness of the department, ie the general condition of equipment and the proficiency of personnel. I was also responsible for the administrative matters within the department.
My second main task was Officer of the Deck.
