During my placement, I developed a sound understanding of the use of VBA-Excel Applications. Together with another trainee, I researched, discussed and planned to deliver a spreadsheet calculating pressure and forces on building facades. The project was delivered successfully and on time.

I quickly found out that my function was very much similar to that of a graduate engineer. Because of the relatively small company size, I was involved in a variety of projects on site and in detailed design. I was also exposed to the financial side and the client-consulting engineer relationship. In general, I was assisting senior engineering staff in modelling structures and analysing results, general design, and calculating quantities.
