Patricia Erbelding (French, b.1958) is associated with the “new abstraction” movement in France. She has exhibited extensively around the world, particularly in Europe, Japan, and the United Sates. Erbelding is well known for painting as well for photography, sculpture and graphics, including artists’ books as collaborations with writers and poets. Much of Erbelding’ imagery is overlaid with a vocabulary of decoded and appropriated signs and images. In her recent works Patricia Erbelding continues to place keen attention on the concepts of transformation and metamorphosis. Teamed up with ink, the artist applies an oxidation process which acts almost as an etching of the paper.
