BIOGRAPHY Studied photography and cinema at Harrow technical college worked for three years as a photographer for Fleet Illustrated, London, as a photographer for catalogues – photographing everything sold by catalogues - from jewellery, furniture, decoration, to men’s fashion and women’s underwear. Not very creative, but a good technical formation! Started freelance as a still life photographer, working for ad agencies in London and Paris from my studio Orange – used by Antonioni for his film “Blow Up.” Also expanded my experience and technique to food pictures. Moved to Paris, started working also for the press – Vogue Paris in particular, and bought a studio in the Abbesses district of Montmartre. Seduced by the atmosphere and friendship with my neighbours, started taking pictures of them, often where they worked or lived, using my technique, to enhance and illustrate them and their environment. Seeing the results Vogue started using me for portraits and reportage. I realized that the personal contact and pleasure of photographing people was what I was missing in still life photography. So I changed speciality, and presented myself as what I am today, a portrait photographer using my technique to best illustrate my subjects, and my humour and affection for people, to establish a contact, which is hopefully transferred to the spectator. Après avoir étudié la photographie et le cinéma au Harrow Technical College, j’ai travaillé durant trois ans pour Fleet Illustrated comme photographe de catalogues – photographiant tout ce qui y était présenté, bijoux, meubles, en passant par les vêtements pour hommes jusqu’aux dessous féminins. Pas très créatif, mais néanmoins un bon apprentissage technique! Depuis mon studio Orange, (utilisé par Antonioni pour le tournage du film Blow Up), je suis devenu photographe free-lance en nature-morte et j’ai travaillé pour des agences de publicité à Londres et Paris et pour des magazines français. J’ai développé également ma technique dans la photographie culinaire. Après avoir emménagé à Paris, aux Abbesses à Montmartre où j’ai acheté un atelier, j’ai été enthousiasmé par l’atmosphère et le côté chaleureux et sympathique de mes voisins. J’ai alors commencé à les prendre en photo, au travail ou dans leur quotidien, utilisant mon savoir-faire pour les mettre en valeur dans leur environnement propre. Le magazine Vogue Homme, avec lequel je travaillais déjà en nature-morte, décide alors d’entamer une collaboration régulière avec moi pour des portraits et des reportages.
Je réalise que ce qui me manque le plus dans la photo de nature-morte, c'est le plaisir du contact humain. Tout naturellement, j’abandonne cette spécialité et deviens portraitiste. Pour illustrer au mieux mes sujets, je me sers de mon sens de l’humour et de mon empathie pour les gens, afin de transmettre au public ce contact si précieux à mes yeux.,
