Fluent in French, Dutch, English (+ some German) with a sustained record of achievement, within select EU and overseas markets, on marketing mainly fine consumer goods into various distribution areas.
Dedicated to ad hoc general management assignments, international trade & business development, eventually P.R. & P.A., with regard to various sectors of industry and trade, from commodities to fine consumer goods, food and non-food, including diamonds and jewelry, for the account of international marketplayers.
Philippe was born in 1960 in a diamondmining area in former Belgian Congo, the actual Democratic Republic of Congo (Tshikapa, West-Kasai). He settled back in Belgium with his family and lived consecutively in Wallonia, Brussels and G(h)ent, since 1962.
He has ended a one year project management contract where he was assigned to serve business development for a former employer (Gautam) with regard to the retailing of fine consumer goods. He conducted in recent years short-term & ad hoc management consultancies in Rwanda, for the account of a local industrial group of companies, as well as in India, with regard to diamonds and retailing of fine consumer goods, and in China, part of a feasibility project in diamond jewelry retailing.
Philippe has a Law degree, ‘Licentiaat in de Rechten’, equivalent to Master, from the University of G(h)ent, a Master’s degree in Business Communication and Public Relations from the European University in Antwerp, ad hoc campus Brussels. He holds several management and marketing certificates from various schools and institutions, including a post-graduate certificate in International Trade from the Solvay Business School, Brussels. He holds several certificates regarding diamond grading (rough & polished natural and synthetic diamonds) from Antwerp, Belgium and Jo’burg, R.S.A. institutions as well as a certificate in development cooperation from the Coopération technique belge / Belgische Technische Cooperatie (B.T.C n.v. / C.T.B. s.a.).
He subsequently managed issues related to business communication and HR development, starting with public relations for (1) a major trade association, (2) an international pharmaceutical company (where he mainly implemented the local training policy and HR development as well as organized various incentives related to commercial and human resources management) as well as for (3) an international public relations & public affairs company.
In search of commercial field activities, he moved to an (4) international rice broker as a matter of introduction to international trade, marketing of commodities. From that time on he has gradually proven sustained achievements in sales and marketing of fine goods, generic, branded & customized, (5) food (fine chocolates) and non-food (6) leather goods & fashion accessories, (7) fine arts & antiques, (8) jewellery & diamonds. Marketing through exclusive distribution channels such as select department stores, supermarkets, boutiques and corners, including the ‘duty-free’ ‘tax-free’ (airport) niche, within the EU as well as overseas, directly and eventually via distributors.
He has focused on establishing and implementing strategies to improve upon all aspects the companies turnover and account portfolio, whether ‘B to B’ or ‘B to C’, by managing existing accounts, as well as by selecting and prospecting new ones, also via trade fairs, in addition to implementing various aspects of marketingcommunication such as through promotion activities and client servicing. Philippe has contributed to productdevelopment and has also focused on brandprotection. He has contributed to synergies to the benefit of local and cross border business development.
Philippe is a teamplayer with leadership qualities who can also act as a stand-alone manager.
