  • BAE Systems plc - Lead Systems Engineer

    1996 - 2006 TERPROM® TAWS (Terrain Awareness and Warning System) for the Boeing C-17A Globemaster III aircraft
    * Leading the systems team (comprising up to 2 other engineers at busy times) in determining new requirements and requirements requiring modification, design modifications (in conjunction with software engineers) and test scenarios for transport aircraft in order to ensure that the correct modifications were made from the "generic" COTS TAWS to that of the C-17. Modification of test and analysis software (trajectory and sensor error generation, statistical analysis, independent terrain display model) in FORTRAN 77 and Mathematica in line with new requirements for C-17 TAWS software.
    * Development programme development standards changed from DOD-STD-2167A/MIL-STD-498 in 2001 to RTCA/DO-178B level C at customer request - this required a greatly expanded testing scope (complete coverage of all lines of code). It was decided to test the software as a complete product wherever possible, reducing module testing to a minimum. This increased customer confidence in the quality of the final product.
    * The software was hosted on the Lockheed Martin (later BAE Systems) VIP (Video Integrated Processor), and in order to simplify modifications, all communication with the VIP operating environment was formatted as for MIL-STD-1553B.
    * (1996-9) Systems Engineer, TERPROM® for F-16 MLU (Mid-Life Update), RAF Harrier GR7, RAF Jaguar, RAF Tornado, UAE Mirage 2000 and Global Air Traffic Management (GATM) TAWS for transport aircraft ;
    * Determining and documenting system requirements and testing to MIL-STD, FAA TSO (for GATM), and ISO 9001 standards. Performing hazard and safety analysis and documentation (using DEF STAN 00-55,00-56 and MIL-STD-882C).
    * Addition of requirements, design and testing for transport aircraft operating in civilian airspace and airports, comprising reactive ground proximity and ILS warning functionality (FAA TSO C92c), reactive windshear warning (FAA TSO C117a), excessive bank angle warnings and altitude callouts.
    * Introducing new terrain display functionality for the GATM TAWS "generic" transport variant compliant with the ARINC 708 (weather radar) standard, which combines ARINC 429 and a "point-to-point" version of MIL-STD-1553B sometimes referred to as ARINC 453.
    * The software has been hosted on the Orbital MDTC/P (Mega Data Transfer Cartridge/Processor), Honeywell EGI (Embedded GPS Inertial) and, for the COTS variant, on a single card in a custom Line Replaceable Unit (LRU). In all cases the interfaces were MIL-STD-1553B type. ;
  • Count House Computers Ltd - Database Analyst & Programmer

    1993 - 1996 * Design, testing and support of relational databases in Dataflex 2.3b and 3.x for local government agencies.

    * Remote support required system administration skills for Unix System V variants and Novell networks and good knowledge of uucp and cu protocols for data transfer. ;
  • Cable & Wireless College - Resource Officer

    1991 - 1993 * Administration of small IBM PC (LanSmart Ethernet) and Apple Macintosh (AppleTalk) networks and training in office applications.

    * Document production and version control to ISO 9000
  • Texas Instruments Inc. - Programmer

    Villeneuve-Loubet 1991 - 1991 * Creation of stand-alone searchable product database in Turbo Pascal for sales and marketing of electronic components.
