Yuliya Georgieva is an Urban Planner and Landscape Architect who has been researching and working on the issues of flooding and urbanisation in flood prone areas since 2013 where she worked at the Ile de France Urban Planning Institute on the revision of Hanoi Capital Region Master Plan 2030 – 2050. A manager Laurent Perrin, introduced her to amphibious architecture and design which sparked her interest in Hanoi’s complexity of urbanization and flood issues. She then lived in Hanoi to collect local knowledge and conduct research. She wrote a design proposal for her master’s thesis project on searching for the solution to flood issues. She facilitated a workshop on the topic of alternative solutions and strategic planning for the development along the Red River and worked on a diversity of scales and projects across the landscape and planning fields with a focus on resilience and climate adaptation strategies. She presented her work and findings in Hanoi during a workshop with the Hanoi Urban Planning institute, at the first International Conference for Amphibious Architecture Design and Engineering in Bangkok. More recently, she presented at the Asian cities Masters program in the Architecture School ENSA in Paris. Recently, Yuliya followed a course on hydrology, hydraulics and geomorphology of rivers deepening her knowledge on the issues of natural and artificial phenomenon causing floods around the world. As a freelance professional, she is currently working on projects in France and abroad.
Yuliya is passionate about seeking to promote the amphibious paradigm in planning to create a better future for living in flood prone areas. She is looking for collaborations on projects in this specific field and willing to work with fellow professionals sharing this mindset.
