    2010 - 2015 `Special Projects' including several Stay Cable Bridges, LNG Tanks and Express Railway - CEME Region (Central and Eastern Europe and Middle East) - ca. EUR 15 million yearly turnover.
    Major Clients: SAIPEM - BOUYGUES TP - SOMATRA - COJAAL/MAKYOL
    For several Stay Cable (SC) Bridges and Post Tensioned (PT) structures, managing the project and the contract from the transfer of contract from Commercial team to the final Handover of the works. This includes coordination with design department, managing SC and PT materials procurement, equipment preparation, transport of materials and equipment to the site, organizing and managing the supervision team for site installation, liaison with the Main Contractor, invoice issuing and contract day to day management.
    Successfully recruited, trained and retained site specialists (engineers and technicians) to accompany the increased activity of the Special Projects profit center. Team grew from 8 to 20 specialists, covering simultaneously up to six different projects in Europe and Middle East.
    For a critical project, through the implementation of a close coordination between Engineering, Procurement and Factory teams, reduced the duration for manufacturing the materials by one-third. In three months, project contributed EUR 1.2 millions to the Profit and Loss Statement of the company hence significantly improving company's financial results just before end of year.
  • VSL (Switzerland) Ltd - Project Manager

    2010 - 2010 For a turn-key project, short term replacement of resigned Project Manager in early stages of project. In particular, organized and placed critical Purchase Orders and coordinated related logistics and transportation (barges, cement, rebars, steel beams, Post Tensioning materials ...). In few weeks, showed flexibility, adaptability and responsiveness in new environment and complex situation.
  • VSL Middle East LLC - Senior Project Manager

    2008 - 2010 Projects: Post Tensioned Slabs (Landmark - Reem Island C13 and C15) and Post Tensioned Bridges (Saadiyat Link - Yas Island Freeway - Shahama Interchange) - USD 23 million
    Clients: Leighton Group - Al Habtoor Engineering - Besix - CCC - CSHK Dubai
    For several Post Tensioned (PT) Bridges and Buildings, responsible for the PT installation, consisting of PT design, materials procurement, equipment supply and supervision works including Post Tensioning strands installation, stressing and grouting. Management of sub-Contracts with Clients, including invoice issuing and collection of payments. Cost control, weekly and monthly reporting covering technical, procurement, production and financial issues.
    Over a period of nine months, by optimizing supervision staff on PT slabs, surpassed supervision cost rate yearly target and reduced by half supervision cost rate. Through optimizing supervision and equipment pricing, improved competitiveness of quotations for PT slabs.
  • OCRIM SPA - Works Manager

    2006 - 2008 Project: Hail Flour Mill - Saudi Arabia - USD 34 million
    Client: Grain Silos and Flour Mills Organization
    For a turn-key project, responsible for the site works consisting of civil works including slipform of wheat and flour bins, equipment erection and commissioning.
    Supervised subcontractors' work and progress, controlled quality of materials and works, established monthly work and equipment payment certificates, produced weekly and monthly reports.
    Liaised with Client's Resident Engineer for Inspection and Acceptance of the Works as per Contract's Requirements.
    Through optimizing tower crane usage and sequencing of walls and slabs, succeeded in reducing duration of concrete works for one floor from 35 down to 21 days.
  • HOLCIM LIBAN - Chekka Cement Plant - Projects and CAPEX Manager & Plant Environmental Coordinator

    2003 - 2005 Projects and CAPEX Manager, Plant Environmental Coordinator
    Responsible for the realization of CAPEX projects within the allocated budget and time: supervised the projects definition, design, procurement, construction and commissioning.
    Responsible for Management of Utilities (drinkable and industrial water networks, pumping stations, lighting network) and Maintenance of Plant Infrastructure (head office building and technical offices building, utilities' tunnels, roads, plant seaport, fences, access gates).
    Responsible for monthly environment reporting and for maintaining and developing green areas within the plant.
    Success story 1:
    As Planner and Project facilitator for the kiln 2004 major maintenance shutdown:
    Acted as a Project Management Approach facilitator for the Project Team. With the plant section managers, coordinated and prepared the maintenance activities planning for the shutdown. Proposed innovating solutions that helped to cut down the shutdown duration by half. EBITDA increased by USD 1.5 million.
    Success story 2:
    After a comprehensive survey of the water network (about 4 km of buried line and numerous lines in 5 km of tunnels), determined locations of leakages, corroded pipes and illegal connections. Through minimal spending and with minor modifications to the network, achieved a reduction of total potable water weekly usage from 10'000 m3 to 2'000 m3. Yearly savings amounted to 160 kUSD.
    Success story 3:
    Played a key role in implementing in a short duration the action plan that led to the successful ISO 14001 certification of the company. Actions included monitoring key indicators and reducing environmental impacts on air, water, soil and neighbouring community.
  • HOLCIM LIBAN - Chekka Cement Plant - Technical Assistant

    2001 - 2003 Technical Assistant to the Cement Process Manager
    1) Assistant to the Cement Process Manager covering cement grinding and the packing plant:
    Supervised dismantling of the old installations and erection of the new packing plant and truck loading installation.Prepared tender documents, and supervised the modification of twelve dedusting filters.
    Supervised Preventive Maintenance of Mechanical and Electrical equipment.
    2) Cement Grinding Upgrade: Project Manager
    Established with Corporate Engineering a Techno-Economical Feasibility Study for the upgrade of the Cement Mills.
    Liaised with Corporate Engineering for establishing the Tender Documents of the upgrading project consisting of a double stage grinding solution, and for conducting technical clarifications with the suppliers KHD and Polysius.
    For the Cement Grinding Upgrade, proposed a solution based on Best Available Technology and making the most of lessons learned within the Holcim Group, whilst
    reducing the total investment cost. The proposed solution involved assessing and analyzing investment cost, operations and maintenance costs, Return On Investment and Payback period.
  • BOUYGUES OFFSHORE - Planning Engineer

    Paris 2000 - 2001 Project: Blue Stream - Gas Compressor Station - Russia - USD 312 million
    For an EPC contract, established the planning under Primavera 3.0, collected data, organized activities and links between engineering, procurement and construction disciplines. Followed-up progress. Completed the planning, determined and highlighted the critical path activities.
  • BOUYGUES TP - BOUYGUES OFFSHORE JV - Quality Control Engineer

    1998 - 2000 Project: Beirut Sea Front - Maritime Protection - USD 230 million
    Consultant Engineer: High Point Rendel
    Client: SOLIDERE
    Conducted Quality Control on the prefabrication of the caissons and superstructures in reinforced concrete. Conducted material control, inspections before, during and after pouring concrete.
    Liaised on a daily basis with the Consultant Engineer about Quality Control issues and respect of the Contract Requirements. Conducted take-over inspections with the Consultant Engineer.
    Established the related Quality Assurance Plan and Procedures.
    Established good working relationships with the Production teams and the Consultant Engineers, thus making site inspections more efficient. Spotted and highlighted a discrepancy in the design, which was corrected to meet technical specifications.
  • GEC ALSTHOM SDEM - Quality and Planning Engineer

    1996 - 1997 Project: Holcim Liban Cement Plant new Kiln - Lebanon - USD 170 million
    Client: POLYSIUS
    Established planning under Microsoft Project, Quality Control of the erection of 20'000 tons of metallic structure and mechanical equipment, of the new production line 7.
    Prepared, compiled and handed-over the final QC documentation to the Client.
    Completed on time the preparation activities before commissioning and start up of the new line. Established the snag list with the Client and actively contributed to completing and clearing all the items.
