Michal Ashkenasi
was born in the Netherlands and after WWII I left to live in Israel .
I am a widow , have 2 married sons , 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild .
For 17 years I lived in the south near the Negev Desert and am still influenced by the landscapes , even after living 45 years in the center of Israel near the sea .
The wide spaces , the colors and the contrasts , they all have a part in the work I do .
I work from my fantasy with an idea in my head which comes from an association or a dream .
The works are abstract - minimalistic in order to capture the essence , without the ‘Frills’ , and leave it to the onlooker to feel the meaning. No wonder Mark Rothko is one of my admired Artists.
Aside of painting I do photography also , where I try to catch the ‘Drama’ in the picture .
I believe Art to be a tool to bring people together , to bring some happiness and joy .
For myself it is part of my life , a must , just as eating and drinking .
Though art I can express my feelings and hopes for a better world .

  • Self Employed - Artist , Photographer

    1990 - 1996 she had her own studio and gallery in Sefad and was a member of the Artist Colony there. Nowadays she lives and works at her home in Kfar-Saba .
    She is a member of the Israeli Association of Painters and Sculptors from 1987. She is also a member of the " Point of View " Group in Kfar - Saba , which is a group of 12 artists with the goal of working around an idea and exhibiting together. She is a member of the I.C.U. organization in Haifa .

    Haifa 1983 - 1990 We worked by our self and once a week one of the teachers came and gave his comments . I had my own style very early and worked mostly with acrylic paint .

    Haifa 1980 - 1983 Arts history , painting , composition, - 7 Years of master classes by 2 different art teachers .
