Three-week contract (18Jul2011-5Aug2011), followed by an eight-month contract (6Sep2011-30Apr2012) and eventually a permanent position as a T1 Park Ranger including the following responsibilities and tasks:
• Joint management: participation in the organisation of the Park Hand Back Ceremony (Nov-11), participation in getting a group of women indigenous rangers to work on Park, logistical organisation of the Joint Management Country Camp at Boggy Hole (Oct-12), participation in the JM working group on interpretation and signage on park, regular management of groups of up to 9 indigenous women rangers working on park, joint presentation with an indigenous ranger of Territory Parks Alive camp fire talks;
• Weed management: hand-pulling of targeted weeds, weed survey along the Finke River, creation of a Buffel grass control zone by spraying (backpack and motorised spray unit), developed a SOP for Finke River Athel Pine and Castor Oil Plant weed survey;
• Feral animal management: in charge of feral animal control for the park, lead on the rabbit control project (including shooting at Watarrka NP), electric fencing patrolling and repairs (use of wire strainer, wire voltage/amp tester and battery tester, creek-crossing fencing);
• Biodiversity: GPS location of Slaters Skink burrows, help in water habitat monitoring at Boggy Hole headed by Professor Jenny Davis, plant habitat survey at Palm Valley (Nov-12) and line-transect survey at Little Palm Creek (Mar-13), lead a group of volunteers during the Biodiversity Matters Community Workshop (Sep-12), participation in the Integration Conservation Strategy planning developed for the park;
• Fire management: fuel reduction and asset protection, prescribed burns with GPSing of fire scars, wild bushfires fighting at Ormiston Gorge, Finke Gorge NP & Watarrka NP;
• Visitor interactions: Territory Parks Alive camp fire talks (over a dozen) and Palm Valley guided walks (over a dozen), campground and day use area cleaning and maintenance, public information on road openings and conditions, as well as other parks- and wildlife-related questions (over the phone and in person), installation of interpretation signs & creation of a visitor comments book to gather feedback from campground users, first aid emergencies (OIC for a broken ankle at Cycad Gorge), creation of various temporary signs for the public, helped lead activities (spotlighting, reptile search, mini-national park activity ) for Ntaria School Junior Ranger Camp on park (Sep-12);
• Law enforcement: inform visitors about camping options and illegal parking and camping, prevent fire wood collection on Park, monitor dog and other pets’ presence, ensure payment of camp fees;
• Track maintenance: use of rakehoe, electric saw, loppers, rubbish removal;
• Infrastructure work: painting/oiling, plumbing, various repairs & maintenance (including use of pedestal grinder, angle grinder, circular saw, power hand drill, precision drill, rivet gun, hammer drill), basic arc and MIG welding, tractor work;
• Station clean-up and organising: workshop, dry dump waste area, fuel shed (use of a block and tackle) and office;
• Regular station maintenance: ordering supplies, gas and fuel, organising deliveries and pick-ups, organising recycling of materials off park and rubbish removal, organising tradesmen for repairs, tools repair and maintenance, weekend patrols, checking and servicing the following: vehicles, traffic counters, bore systems and diesel/solar generators;
• Camp fee collection and data entry as well as transport of the fees to DBE;
• Reporting: weekend checks, end of month reports, TPA season yearly report, emails and phone calls;
• Organising: helped develop a new budget follow-up document, review and update of all the park’s SOPs, updated all MSDS folders on park, created follow-up document for R&M projects, OH&S tasks, ranger hours, new TPA walks and talks scripts, etc.;
• Volunteers’ supervision while on park on various projects.

• Weed management: backpack spraying, motorized spray unit, hand-pulling;
• Fire management: prescribed burning, use of fire unit and water pump, fuel reduction using brush-cutters and hand saws, training in person and with DVDs, use of gas bottles and firebugs for burning, use of rakehoe to put in control lines;
• Participation to the ongoing infrastructure project: requiring the use of a GPS and GIS software;
• Track maintenance: use of rakehoe, electric saw, loppers;
• Infrastructure work: dingo work - earthmoving, erosion control, land management, painting/oiling, plumbing;
• Biodiversity: participation in a small mammal survey monitoring populations of Central Rock-rats using Elliott traps and base management of biodiversity on the results, monitoring of Brush-tailed Possums using camera traps, use of Biological Record Scheme (basic use of ArcView and ArcGIS software);
• Feral animal control: bee hive removal, feral cats trapping;
• Visitor interaction: Territory Parks Alive camp fire talks (in a paid capacity), vehicle rescue, cleaning of facilities, repairing facilities, information on walking options in the area;
• Vehicle servicing;
• Participated in the Interpretive Techniques for Parks training (Mar-2011).
